StoryGuider Social-Emotional Learning Adventures

This bundle of games includes over 30 StoryGuider adventures made specifically for teaching social-emotional learning skills while having fun playing and reading!

In Big Book of Heroes: Explore oceans with Captain Cam, venture into space with The Astronaut, save the day with Dr. Morf, and test new food experiments with Chef Stu!

Then, in Big Book of Friends: Join the fun with Betti, explore magical books with Lucky, investigate tricky disputes with M the Mouse, and learn magic with Will!

Coming soon in summer 2026: I'll be updating all of the Sandy the Dragon adventures, compiling them into their own Big Book of Dragons, and adding a few more tales to the mix as well!  In the meantime, the original Sandy the Dragon releases are still available here.

How does this book work?

This series uses the StoryGuider system and is intended for ages 2-7.   Its a choose your adventure coloring book, which means that you’ll read a story, pick what the character does, AND color the pages how you want.

There may also be other activities, like using maps, talking to characters, and choosing your supplies to act out and play with.

Skills practice built in

StoryGuider is designed for fun and skills practice. This particular story focuses on these skills:

• Make choices between two options
• Point to pictures when they are named
• Give short answers (1-4 words)
• Play make-believe games
• Practice body exercises (gross motor skills)
• Color pictures and doodle (fine motor skills)

About the StoryGuider system:

StoryGuider is a system to help make simple stories with your kid(s) so they can get used to tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), decision-making, problem-solving, etc.

It focuses only on the RP side of TTRPGs (there are optional dice roll rules provided, but they are not required).  This is so kids can get used to playing as a character and changing the story without having to simultaneously worry about learning mechanics that they are not familiar with.  It is a stepping stone into playing more rules-based TTRPGs OR can just be a fun interactive story time experience!

Note: This game recieved a major update in 2026 that meant new art, layout, and structuring for the story!  In case people prefer the old version, I've kept the files here.  This older version is marked in the file name.  Additionally, some of the games (the Sandy the Dragon series) are still going through the update process and currently show the old files with their updates scheduled for summer 2026.

AGE RANGE that this game targets

• Ages 2-5 (pre-K)

SUBJECT & SKILLS the game will help players learn

Each game has a different social-emotional focus, but all of them have these common themes:

• Pre-K social-emotional skills
• Make choices between two options
• Point to pictures when they are named and/or naming pictures
• Give short answers (1-4 words)
• Play simple make-believe games
• Gross and fine motor skills

NUMBER of students/players 

• Individuals to a full class
• This game has been used both with individual kids at home and with full pre-K classrooms

PLAYTIME required for a full game 

• 30-60 minutes (depends on how much time you want to give for coloring sheets)

RULES are designed for easy, intuitive play 

• A grown up (the Story Guider) is required to read the story and prompt kids with questions to help the story grow.  Mini-games and questions are appropriate for young children and don’t require reading or mechanics comprehension.
• Everything is set up to print and start - no pre-reading or prep is required other than to print and have coloring tools available for kids.

TOOLS that are needed 

• You should print the coloring sheets and have coloring tools available, but other than that, the rest is optional.  There are recommendations for additional activities (like extra art projects, games, when to add music, etc) in the set up section for each game, but they are truly optional.
